FILM NOIR FESTIVAL DAY 2

I LOVE TROUBLE (1948)

adapted for the screen by roy huggins who was a student at

ucla and was a big fan of the work of ray chandler

his first novel, double take was scooped-up by hollywood

and he later wrote the screenplay

the reason this film is a footnote on movie history

especially film noir history is because huggins went on

and later created television classics like 77 sunset strip,

maverick, the fugitive, toma, switch, baretta and

the hugely successful, the rockford files

this surprisingly witty and quick talking film noir starred

franchot tone as detective stu bailey investigating the murky

past of a rich man’s wife, and runs into lots 'o beauties

sort of like a james bond character, where every women

he meets is a bombshell and they all want him - badly

tone clips off huggins’ wisecrack laden dialogue while

meandering through a plethora of double-dealing dames

this ride through post WW2 LA also takes our hero to various

locations like westwood village, venice, long beach

and there was even a high speed car chase to santa monica

it's so very interesting to see these ol' movies, sets & screens

not on the late show on a little tv, but the way they were

meant to be seen, on a big movie screen with digital sound

and fully restored on 35 mm film

this is why the film noir festival is having such a successfull

run at the camelot theaters in downtown palm springs

don't miss out, get there and enjoy some special magic

BACK IN 1948, THE MOVIE'S POSTER GOT
MUCH MORE ATTENTION THAN DID THE FILM
