FILM NOIR FESTIVAL, WHAT A PARTY!

Film Noir: noun
a motion picture with an often grim urban setting, photographed in somber tones
and permeated by a feeling of disillusionment, pessimism, and despair.

CRY DANGER (1951)
the poster was in color

but the film was shot in stark black and white

and it  permeated with a feeling of disillusionment,

pessimism, and despair.

this masterpiece from the era of classic film noir

stars a very harded dick powell seeking revenge after

a surprise witness clears him from a frame-up

this film had everything, chills, spills, humor and really

loud gunshots, oh, really ugly cars too

big, huge fat cars driving around a totally flat downtown L.A.

- only the new city hall can be seen in the scenes

rhonda fleming played the hottie - the femme fatale

and a marvelous richard erdman played the 'bottle-hitting'

supporting role and provided crackling lines like

'if you drank as much as i do, you'd have to start

early in the morning too'

the dialogue was written by screenwriter bill bowers

this superb film was the debut by director robert parrish

you've never seen these kinds of movies the way they

were meant to be seen, a fully restored 35mm print

on a huge screen and digitally projected - film magic

following the screening, actor
 richard erdman

which is still working, now in his 7th decade

discussed his life and times and answered questions

the film was filled with witty banter and hard knuckle action

no special effects, just the kind of strong dialogue and acting

that has been missing in movies for decades

that's why there is such a great affection to this genre

this festival, celebrating it's 12th year, is the second

largest in the country, and judging by the packed house

this palm springs institution will be entertaining fans

for many years to come... don't miss out

the arthur lyon's film noir festival continues through sunday

at the camelot theaters in downtown palm springs
