REVIEW OF SELECTED AM DOCS FILM
this is the last review of the screenings at the first annual
american documentary film festival in palm springs
to put it plainly, it was a grand success
a week of incredible entertainment and education
all in digital clarity and dolby -i mean wow- super sound
later tonight are the awards and accolades
but as for this last review...
today's movie has already been screened at over 52 festivals
- film festivals all over the world from glasgow to sydney
it has won 33 awards and the 20 'best documentary' awards
it received weren't even at lgbt film festivals
lgbt stands for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual & transgender
yes, this documentary was about homosexual twins
two brothers that have a dream
the dream is all about their idol and music legend dolly parton
they've written a movie screenplay and they have a plan
- they've rented an rv, named it jolene, after the parton song
and they're driving it to dollywood - from hollywood
the plan is to present the screenplay to dolly in person
in john lavin's documentary: hollywood to dollywood
35 year old twin brothers, larry and gary lane
take us on a cross-country journey into the soul of gay america
we meet their lovers and friends, and go to gay bars
see trans-sexuals and a whole group of assorted characters
in a constant theme and sub-text running throughout
the movie, the boys obsess about their parents
- especially their mom, accepting their gay lifestyle choices
the twins produced this film out-of-pocket, what did help
was they were the winners on the abc reality program
wipeout, and the $50,000 helped with the post-production
in the Q&A session they revealed that they were in the
adam sandler film: jack and jill and as a result, were awarded
a 'razzie' as part of the worst ensemble cast last year
the movie concluded with them meeting with dolly parton
at dollywood - giving her gifts, including their screenplay
and feeling so fulfilled that their journey was a success
in the end, parton hasn't responded to their screenplay
and their mom still hasn't come around
